MANILA, Philippines – The player who will succeed Kelly Williams as the next Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) most valuable player (MVP) will be known Wednesday night when the league announces the winner before the Fiesta Cup’s Game 4.
Naming the Fiesta Cup PBA MVP will be the highlight of the Leo Prieto Awards Night at the Araneta Coliseum.
Leading the way in the wide-open race is Barangay Ginebra’s JayJay Helterbrand.
Williams edged out Arwind Santos last year in bagging the league’s coveted individual award.
Also contesting for the MVP plum are Dondon Hontiveros of San Miguel Beer, Mac-Mac Cardona of Talk ‘N Text, Alaska’s Willie Miller and Santos of Burger King.
Helterbrand was recently adjudged as the best player of the conference (BPC), the same award won by Miller in the Philippine Cup. Cardona, on the other hand, was the Finals MVP when the Tropang Texters conquered the season-opening tournament without imports.
Also on tap in the near two-hour ceremonies are the announcement of winners in the rookie of the year (ROY), sportsmanship, and most improved player categories and members of the first and second Mythical Teams and the All-Defensive Team. – GMANews.TV
